Bitcoin at $79,925 and ether at $2,317, from one Monday file. The venue is not named.
Two Monday prices are real. A protocol upgrade, a venue outage and an ETF flow are not in the file, so they stay out of the entry.
A venue index needs a venue. Monday’s best public crypto figures, in the sources used here, do not have one. CNBC’s currencies article of 26 October 2026 said bitcoin was down 0.6% at $79,925.84 and ether was down 1.1% at $2,317.33. That is a news-desk composite. It is not a trade report from a named matching engine, and it is not a protocol event.
The rest of that article is a conventional macro morning: currencies in tight ranges, Brent down more than 1% at around $115, the US 10-year at 4.974%, and a week of central-bank meetings ahead. Crypto is a paragraph at the end. Treating the paragraph as a market-structure release would invent a venue, a spread and a reason.
What the second note adds, carefully#
Saxo’s Monday quick take said tokens slipped further over the weekend and that exchange-traded funds extended their outflows. The passage used here does not give the outflow in dollars or in coins, and it does not name the funds. “Extended their outflows” is a direction. A flow table needs a number and a fund. This index will not create either.
There is also no client-release note, no halt, and no exploit in these two pieces. The SEC’s press wire, as listed for this week’s US items, has a 23 October announcement of fiscal-year 2027 examination priorities and earlier items on cooperation with other authorities. Those are securities-regulator documents. They are not, in the headline alone, a statement about a token standard. This note does not paraphrase a priorities list it has not quoted line by line.

- ETF flow ..... Saxo says outflows continued; no amount in the passage used
The macro week can still be the context without becoming the cause. Five central banks meet. CNBC quoted a Pepperstone note that guidance may matter more than the decisions. A rate repricing can move dollar liquidity and, with it, the dollar price of bitcoin. That is a channel worth watching after the statements. It is not a coefficient that can be computed from one paragraph.
Until a named venue publishes a print, the entry for 26 October is two prices, two percentage changes, and an explicit empty cell for the venue. Empty is more accurate than a guess.
The same rule applies to the weekend Saxo described. “Slipped further” can be filed as a direction from that note, next to CNBC’s Monday levels, without turning the weekend into a return series. A return series would need a Friday close and a Sunday close from the same venue. This desk has a Monday news print and an adjective. Gold, in the CNBC file, was $3,986.16 and slightly lower. Putting gold and bitcoin in one “alternative” row would imply a relationship the article did not estimate. They are neighbours in the layout of a news story. They are not a pair trade.
If a later primary source names an exchange, a funding rate, or an ETF creation in dollars, the index can add those fields on a new line. The Monday line does not get edited into that later source. The point of an index is that the hole stays visible until it is filled by a document, not by a house style that dislikes empty cells.
This is not a recommendation to buy or sell bitcoin, ether, or any fund that holds them.
Frequently asked questions
Which exchange printed $79,925.84?
CNBC did not say. The figure is CNBC’s Monday reading. It should not be relabelled as a named venue’s last trade.
Did a protocol ship an upgrade today?
Not in these sources. The digital-asset fact on Monday morning is a price move, not a client release or a chain halt.
Can the equity selloff be used as the cause?
CNBC described a tech-led selloff tied to AI concerns as part of the broader tape, and reported the crypto moves in the same article. It did not publish a beta. Cause is not established here.
